I’ve been getting a lot of questions about things to do and places to eat in Amsterdam, so I figured I would do a series of Amsterdam guides to write it all down. Plus, it’s a great excuse to do extra research on this city now that it’s getting nice out. This is the first post in my new series, To Do in the Dam. Naturally, I had to start with a post about one of my favorite (and most necessary) things – coffee!
I had to be sure I didn’t title this post “the best coffeeshops in Amsterdam” because we all know that has a very different meaning! I’m still getting used to calling them “coffeebars.” Below are the best places to get coffee in Amsterdam from my point of view. I’m sure there are so many more great places that I haven’t experienced yet, but these are the ones I frequent or have found interesting.

THE MOST INSTAGRAMMABLE
Pluk wins the most grammable coffeebar in Amsterdam by a long shot. If you make a visit, you’ll understand. It’s always packed with people trying to get a photo of their cute millennial pink-filled interior. With two locations near De 9 Straatjes, it’s the perfect place to swing in and caffeinate while hitting up the boutiques or snapping pics on Prinsengracht. They also have a great selection of accessories you can purchase, like my favorite croissant phone case!
THE COOLEST INTERIOR
Coffee & Coconuts isn’t my favorite place to get coffee in Amsterdam, but only because they don’t do soy milk, so I can’t get my beloved soya latte. But they definitely win for the coolest interior. This coffeebar used to be an old theatre that sat abandoned for years before being converted into a coffeebar. It’s got a great airy, beach-inspired interior with multiple levels and options for seating. It’s definitely worth a visit, but the next spot on my list of the best places to get coffee in Amsterdam is right across the street and wins for best coffee.
THE BEST COFFEE
Brazuca is one of my favorite coffee places in Amsterdam because they make the best soya latte. It’s not a particularly grammable location, but you will find lots of Dutchies sitting outside when it’s nice enjoying an espresso and people watching. The coffee beans used at Brazuca come from Brazil and are roasted in Amsterdam, so it’s really good stuff. This is the place I usually make a stop at on the way home from the gym when I want a really great latte.
THE SPOT YOU’RE GUARANTEED TO GET A STROOPWAFFLE
One of the best Dutch treats is a stroopwaffle, and at Cafe Blond, you’ll get one with your latte. Dunking it in your hot cup is the best. I also like Cafe Blond because it’s never particularly crowded. It’s a great place to work or grab breakfast. Plus they have the cutest cheeky plates and mugs from their store around the corner.
THE HIPSTER SPOT CLOSE TO RIJKSMUSEUM
Back to Black is a cute, hipster coffeebar not far from Rijksmuseum. It’s pretty tiny, and you can find both the Dutch, as well as expats hanging out and chatting over a cup. It’s a great option if you’re looking for some caffeine before the museums but don’t want to end up somewhere touristy. I recommend getting a slice of the lemon-blueberry cake along with your cup and enjoy some people watching.
