I know a lot of people really love summer, but I personally get excited when the cooler temps start to sneak their way in. As the summer humidity on the east coast moves out, it’s replaced by crisp, sunny days. And with that change in weather comes a change in what we wear. Sleeves and hemlines get longer, layers get added, and boots become a staple. It’s my favorite time of year for fashion because there is so much room to play. Summer is hot and calls for so little clothing. Once it gets too cold, all you’ll ever see of anyone is their coats and scarves. But early fall allows us to play around with layers and fabrics in the best possible way.
Just because the season is changing, doesn’t mean you have to give up your favorite summer pieces. One of the essential tricks this time of year is knowing how to transition your summer dress to fall. There are honestly so many options, but I wanted to share one of my favorites.
In this post, I’m wearing this dress from Sézane. It’s one of my favorite French brands that makes super high-quality clothes with that je ne sais quoi that only the French can do. For my summer look, I paired the dress with easy slides (similar ones here since mine are sold out) and a raffia bag (fall version of my bag here and so cuuuute). I like to keep things easy during the summer, so you won’t find me wearing a lot of extra stuff.
In order to transition your summer dress to fall, you’ll definitely need to add some layers. I styled my dress for those early fall days when you can still get away with a little bare leg. I wore my favorite heeled booties that I have owned and loved for years, but this look would also work with flat boots. A leather jacket and pouch bag easily complete the look.
Other easy ways to transition your summer dress to fall?
- Add a chunky white knit on top and belt it at the waist
- Wear a thin black turtleneck underneath
- Rock knee-high boots and a trench coat
- Thrown on a pair of tights as the temps drop!
